Sharing weekly update from Riley Moore…

Mountain State Update from Congressman Riley Moore – March 24, 2025
 Fellow West Virginians,

I hope you had a blessed weekend! This past week, the Congress was out of session for a district work period. I spent several days traveling across the Second District to meet with constituents and share some news about my work in Washington.
Over the week I met with numerous individuals. I sat down with union workers and small business owners, held a roundtable discussion with local community leaders, and even cut the ribbon at our Morgantown district office! It was an incredibly productive week, and I’m pleased to share a few of the highlights with you.
USW HallI spent the afternoon meeting with members of the United Steelworkers in Weirton on Wednesday. More on my travels below!

Touring our District
As previously mentioned, I had the great opportunity to spend several days traveling through North Central West Virginia and the Northern Panhandle. It was great to hear from so many constituents, including business owners and local elected officials, throughout the trip. Catch some of the highlights below!
Morgantown Group
I started in Morgantown on Wednesday where my team and I hosted a ceremonial ribbon cutting for my flagship district office. Located at 8 Suburban Court, this office will provide a variety of services to residents of the Second District. If you’re having trouble with a federal agency or simply wish to share a comment, please give us a call or stop by!

Next, I drove to the Northern Panhandle, where I held a roundtable discussion with members of the United Steelworkers at the 2911 USW local union hall in Weirton. We discussed President Trump’s tariff policies, which protect critical industries like steel and aluminum. I also shared information about my bill to codify President Trump’s reciprocal tariffs into law.
While there, I received an update on the work to re-open the Cleveland-Cliffs electrical steel factory in Weirton. As you may know, the Cleveland-Cliffs tinplate steel facility at the same location was closed last year due to unfair trade practices, and 1000 steelworkers were left out of work.  Inside USW

After meeting with the United Steelworkers, I spent the evening with local community leaders in Wheeling. We discussed policies to spur economic development across the region and a number of other issues that Congress can help to solve.
On Thursday morning, I hosted another roundtable in Wheeling with local small business owners. We discussed Congress’ progress on extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which affords significant tax relief to small businesses, as well as the President’s tariff policies.  W/ Business owner
After the business roundtable, I headed down the road to Triadelphia, where I met with the team at the Guntry indoor shooting range and training center. We discussed the strong record of support for the Second Amendment in West Virginia, and steps that Congress can take to get the rest of our country caught up with the Mountain State on gun rights. Of course, we had to send a few rounds down range before heading home!

Dismantling the Department of Education
In Washington, President Trump continued delivering on his campaign promises to put America First by signing an executive order to begin dismantling the federal Department of Education!
Ed. Dept.
As you may know, I ran on eliminating the federal Department of Education and block granting those dollars directly to the states. I am proud to see that promise coming to fruition.
Educational outcomes have been disastrous since the Department’s creation under President Carter — and it’s time we fully returned the decision-making authority back to the states. I’m grateful to President Trump for keeping his campaign promise, and, in Congress, I can’t wait to work on legislation to make this action permanent.

Service Academy Information Session
Academy 1Academy 2
It was great to see so many young men and women at our service academy information session in Jefferson County over the weekend. Students had the chance to learn more about the nomination process, hear directly from current academy students about their experiences, and ask questions. I look forward to reviewing applications for nomination and making my recommendations to the respective academies this winter!
In the News
I spoke with WTOV9 in Weirton after my roundtable with United Steelworkers. We discussed the President’s tariff policies and the progress in Weirton to re-open the Cleveland Cliffs facility that had been closed in early 2024.
