The protest in DC was amazing!!!
Upon entering the metro station, there were folks sitting on the floor making posters, helping each other with fare cards, greeting each other, chatting with Metro agents, reading each other’s signs, mingling with sightseers.
A little boy sitting near us on the metro in had made a sign that read something like, “I Like School! Hands Off! the Department of Education!” He got lots of kudos from other riders.
As soon as we exited the metro, we joined a sea of protestors heading for the Washington Monument. We eventually made our way to the Sylvan Theater where the real noise was. Stayed to hear a couple of dynamic speakers (missed Jamie Raskin & Illian Omar, tho😕), packed in like sardines. Moved away for more air & to mingle with a kazillion like-minded people. The signs ranged from something heart-felt scribbled on a piece of paper to cardboard to elaborate & artistically designed; from clever to profound. As we moved through the crowd, we participated with roaring call & responses
The camaraderie was palpable. The crowd was chill & peaceful, other than raising their voices. Masses of people wherever I looked, making good trouble, chanting, drumming, making music, groovin’. Very little uniformed police presence, except on the outskirts & all encountered were helpful & friendly. National Park Rangers were present, & were greeted with cheers.
Definitely came away feeling buoyed & empowered. We’ve got to keep it up.
‼️STAY TUNED FOR UPCOMING ACTIONS POSTING SOON.‼️
